The holidays are right around the corner – it seems like they really snuck up on us this year, doesn’t it? – and that means you might be entertaining in your DTLA loft or condo.
So where do you put the overnight guests?
Here’s how to turn any room into a guest room.
How to Turn Any Room Into a Guest Room in Your DTLA Loft
First things first: determine which rooms will make terrible guest rooms. Nobody wants to be in the laundry room. Once you’ve done that:
- Think about installing a Murphy bed
- Switch to multipurpose furniture
- Create a sense of privacy if there’s no door on your guest room
Murphy Beds
While you shouldn’t invest in a fold-up or install a Murphy bed if you’re only hosting guests this once, it might be a good investment if there are lots of holiday guests in your future. You can install one nearly anywhere – and don’t worry, they’re a lot more comfortable than they look in old black-and-white movies.
Multipurpose Furniture
Futons might not be all they’re cracked up to be (if you’re over 30 and have slept on one, you know what we’re talking about) but pull-out sofas can be pretty comfy. Not enough space for a pull-out? Try a daybed, which you can put in a small office or sunroom.
Create Privacy
Sometimes there’s just not enough room for everyone to have his or her own space, so invest in a folding screen, or hang drapes or curtains.
