If you’re like many people who are selling a condo or loft in DTLA, you have plenty of questions – and some of them might be about whether your appliances have seen better days and should be replaced so you can sell your home.
Here’s what you need to know.
Should You Replace Appliances to Sell Your Home?
It doesn’t always make sense to replace appliances to sell your home. The problem is that what buyers are looking fro in one community, they don’t care about so much in another – but your best resource for that type of information is your real estate agent.
Even if you have an appliance that’s on its last legs, it may not make sense to replace it. You’ll definitely need to ask your real estate agent for guidance.
With that said, though, here are some guidelines on how long most major appliances last (on average):
- Dryers: 13 years
- Freezers: 10 to 20 years
- Gas ovens: 10 to 18 years
- Microwaves: 9 years
- Refrigerators: 9 to 13 years
- Washing machines: 5 to 15 years
- Window air conditioning units: 5 to 7 years
A lot of factors go into how long these major appliances last, though. If you barely ever use your microwave, for example, it’s going to last a lot longer than it would if you used it every day.
The bottom line: Don’t plan to replace any of your appliances without talking to your real estate agent first.
