When you’re buying a condo or loft for sale in DTLA, you’ll need a home inspection – but when the inspection turns up big problems, it might be time to walk away.
3 Red Flags in Home Inspections
Here are three red flags that home inspections sometimes turn up. If you encounter any of them, it might be time to rethink your purchase offer and start looking for something else:
- Bad electrical wiring
- Polybutylene water pipes
- Environmental hazards
Bad Electrical Wiring
Wiring is extremely expensive to repair. If you’re buying a condo or loft, you might not be on the hook for repairing it… but you will have to be displaced from your home – or at least inconvenienced – when the condo building or loft manager decides it’s time to make repairs.
Polybutylene Water Pipes
Like wiring, you probably won’t be on the hook for replacing polybutylene water pipes, but you’ll have to put up with it while the building owner does fix it. Another issue: that kind of piping, which was widely used in the 1980s, is known for leaks and flooding. You could be asking for a disaster.
Environmental Hazards
Nasty stuff like asbestos, lead paint or mold… just walk away. You can find a better condo or loft for sale with your Realtor’s(R) help.
