When you’re buying a condo or loft for sale in DTLA, you’ll walk through several with your agent.
Here’s what to look for on a walk-through:
- Leaks
- Bulges in flooring
- Water stains
- Wood quality
What to Look for on a Walk-Through
You’ll eventually hire a home inspector when you find a condo or loft you want to buy, but you can save yourself from falling in love with a home that’s wrong for you if you’re looking out for these four issues.
Leaks
Check for leaks under the sinks or around toilets. They may not be deal-breakers (sometimes leaks are an easy fix) – but you do need to know that if you spot a leak, the homeowner hasn’t done anything about it, so there could be significant damage that you can’t see.
Bulges in Flooring
Check for bulges under the carpet, flooring that’s buckled or discoloration on hardwoods. Either of these can indicate flooring problems that could cost you a fortune to fix if you buy the home.
Water Stains
Water stains inside a home are never a good sign. Maybe the building has a leaky roof or the family upstairs has a bad habit of leaving the sink running all night – but either way, there could be damage you can’t see inside the ceiling.
Wood Quality
Check for wood rot on door and window frames, as well as around window ledges. That could be a sign that there’s too much condensation getting in or that the home is in poor condition – and in some cases, the seller might be trying to cover it up with fresh paint.
